BKSN: DINNER AND SOLIDARITY PICTURE! FRI 9TH JUNE 6-9PM

DINNER AND SOLIDARITY PICTURE

The fascist president of Turkey, Erdoğan, keeps his grip on power after the elections in Turkey at the end of May. Despite this blow our friends in north Kurdistan keep hope and keep fighting for a free and loving world. We want to show them that people in this island care and stand with them.

Come join us for dinner, after food we plan to walk up to the painting for the Kurdish revolutionary, and one of the leaders of the Kurdish Freedom Movement, Abdullah Öcalan on the cycle path (near Greenbank cemetery about 15 minute walk from BASE). We will then send the picture to our friends in the region.

NATIONAL ANIMAL RIGHTS DAY: Sun 14th May: Workshop, Cafe & Film: TRANSFARMING SWITZERLAND

What happens when farmers have a change of heart?

A We Animals Media short film directed by Thomas Machowicz and Sabina Diethelm.

“Transfarming Switzerland” documents one animal activist’s unconventional approach: to work with – not against – animal farmers. Sarah Heiligtag transforms animal farms into vegan farms and animal sanctuaries across Switzerland and neighbouring countries.

It is the farmers themselves who, because of growing moral concerns, come to struggle with raising and slaughtering their animals to earn a living. Looking to make a drastic change in their business, these conflicted animal farmers learn about Sarah, make contact with her and together they develop a plan to transform.

These changes are challenging both practically and emotionally: the farmers must adapt infrastructure and finances, but also defy deep-rooted farming practices and family traditions. Despite this, Sarah has transformed more than 100 farms to date, proving to many within the farming industry that change and progress are possible for those who seek a different relationship with animals .

We are working on a flyer with info about the Art Workshop and will forward to you shortly, when finished. All are welcome to join in our preparations for the National Animal Rights Day Bristol March.

BASE Infoshop at the 5th Bristol Radical History Festival

BASE’s Infoshop returns to the Bristol Radical History Festival this Saturday at M shed, by Bristol’s harbourside. The Infoshop will have a full stall on the day, alongside more than 20 other stalls from local and national groups, distros & campaigns. So why not pop by for an hour, or the full day, and check out some of Bristol’s radical ourstory & visual artists, and buy some literature to get those brains cells working overtime!

This will be the 5th Bristol Radical History Festival organised by Bristol Radical History Group (BRHG), which was formed in 2006 and has been running events & publishing local history pamphlets/books ever since. This years Festival has two main themes with 6 meetings on each:
Bristol Trade Union History Then and Now – This theme will aim to provide a historical context for the recent burst of trade union activity in Bristol and throughout the U.K.
Radical Bristol and the Visual Arts – This theme explores radical visual artists in Bristol over two centuries.

But there’s not just meetings and talks! Along with 3 outdoor history walks – including one on City Centre Squatting at 4pm, there are 4 exhibitions, 3 film screenings, a performance by Red Notes Choir, and of course the 20+ stalls.
The full Festival Programme is here, and a paper version will be available on the day. The FB event includes some useful graphics in the discussion thread as to what’s on when!
Come and say hi to us during the day eh!
