You might have heard that support for Windows 10 is ending on the 14th October. That means no more patches for bugs or fixing security holes. 🪲
Many perfectly good computers cannot upgrade to Windows 11 due to the strict hardware requirements. But fret not, it is relatively easy to ditch Windows entirely and start using Linux! 🐧
In this session we will explain the different options available and provide support for you to switch to a more private and secure operating system without having to buy a new device.
Bring your laptop along to get the most out of the session. 💻
🔗 More information is available here: https://endof10.org/
Note – if you want to attempt to install Linux during the session, there are some steps that you can take beforehand that will make the process a lot quicker and help you get the most out of the session.
Steps:
- Back up your files onto a hard drive or secure cloud service
- Make sure your browser is all synced and you know the correct username and password for your account
- Save and back up your passwords using a password manager
For the event, you will need:
- Your laptop!
- Ideally a hard drive (with your files backed up onto it or for you to back up onto if you haven’t done it already) – or have some way to backup your files and retrieve them
- A thumb drive for the install process. Most Linux installation software will fit on a 16GB USB memory stick (We will have some distro’s already loaded and some spare USB sticks but please bring your own if possible)
